Although the layman generally doesn’t know it, heat shrink tubing is an extremely essential part of electronics. Heat shrink tubing is used for many things, but mainly to insulate “hot” wires, and to bind groups of wires together. Heat shrink tubing is categorized by the shrink ratio and by the shrink temperature. It is important to know these things when you purchase your tubing; if you get the wrong kind, you could end up damaging electronics by exposing them to too much heat.

If you need to use a soldering iron and you don’t have access to an AC outlet, you may be in trouble. Luckily there are alternatives to AC powered soldering irons, and they can be found on the Internet. Solder torches can be used as a cordless alternative to a soldering iron, or can be used for welding or plumbing.
